Inheritance tax on pensions from April 2027: what counts and who pays
For deaths on or after 6 April 2027, most unused pension funds and death benefits count towards the estate for inheritance tax. HMRC expects about 10,500 more estates to pay in 2027/28. Budget 2026 also removed the two-year rule for death benefits from 28 October 2026.
