Cookie policy
The Investment Daily uses only the cookies that WordPress, the software the site runs on, sets when someone signs in or uses the site’s admin area. We use no advertising or tracking cookies. If we add analytics later, analytics cookies will be set only if you agree.
A cookie is a small file that a website stores on your device. The rules on cookies are in regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 and its Schedule A1, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. This policy was last updated on 9 October 2026.
Cookies set when you sign in
If you read the site without signing in, you will not normally receive any of these cookies. They are set when you open the sign-in page or sign in, for example as a registered TID Professional reader or as a member of staff. The first three in the table are strictly necessary, because the site cannot keep you signed in without them, so the law does not require consent for them. We list them all here.
| Cookie | What it does | Who gets it | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| wordpress_test_cookie | Checks that your browser accepts cookies before you sign in | Anyone who opens the sign-in page | Until you close your browser |
| wordpress_logged_in_[code] | Shows that you are signed in and which account you are using | Anyone who signs in | Until you close your browser, or about two weeks if you choose to stay signed in |
| wordpress_[code] and wordpress_sec_[code] | Keep your sign-in secure; your browser sends them only to the site’s admin area | Anyone who signs in | Until you close your browser, or about two weeks if you choose to stay signed in |
| wp-settings-[number] and wp-settings-time-[number] | Remember display settings in the admin area | Signed-in users who open the admin area, normally staff | One year |
In these names, [code] stands for a string unique to this site and [number] for the user’s account number.
The two wp-settings cookies are not strictly necessary: they only remember display preferences. The law allows cookies of this kind without consent if users are told what they do and can object free of charge. To object, email editor@theinvestmentdaily.com.
Our hosting or security service may also set a strictly necessary cookie to protect the site from automated attacks. If it does, we will list it here.
Analytics cookies, only with your consent
We do not use analytics cookies at launch. If we decide to measure how the site is used, we will:
- show a banner that lets you accept or refuse analytics cookies, with both choices equally easy to make;
- set no analytics cookie unless you accept;
- set one strictly necessary cookie that remembers your choice;
- list each analytics cookie, its provider and how long it lasts on this page;
- let you change your mind at any time through a cookie settings link at the foot of every page.
Cookies we do not use
We use no advertising, retargeting or social media tracking cookies, and we do not sell information about your visits. Any advertisements we carry are labelled and are not used to track you.
Other sites
We link to other sites, such as regulators and official statistics. Those sites set their own cookies under their own policies. If we ever embed content from another site that sets cookies, such as a video, we will list it here.
Controlling cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, you can still read the site, but you will not be able to sign in.
For how we handle personal data more generally, see our privacy notice. Questions about cookies: editor@theinvestmentdaily.com.
