Independence and how we make money
The Investment Daily does not sell investments, takes no affiliate commission and sells no paid placement. At launch it is paid for by its publisher, The Webezine Company (TWC), and it may carry a small number of clearly labelled advertisements.
This page sets out how we expect to make money as the title grows, and the rule that will govern each source. If anything here changes, we will update this page first and date the change.
What we do not do
- We do not sell investments, arrange deals or give personal advice.
- We do not take affiliate commission, referral fees or any payment linked to what a reader buys.
- We do not sell placement in our articles, tables, data products or rankings.
- We do not publish advertising made to look like journalism.
- We do not pass readers’ details to product providers, and we do not sell our lists.
- We do not publish paid tips, and nobody can pay for coverage.
Advertising
Any advertisement we carry is labelled “Advertisement”, sits apart from our journalism and never appears inside a data table. An advertisement for an investment is a financial promotion. We carry one only when it has been made by an authorised firm (one authorised by the FCA or the Prudential Regulation Authority), or approved by an authorised firm that is entitled to approve it under section 21 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. We record who made or approved each one and when. You can check any firm on the FCA’s Financial Services Register.
Advertisers do not influence what we cover and do not see our journalism before it is published. An advertisement on our pages is not an endorsement.
Future revenue, and the rules that will govern it
We expect to add the sources below after launch. None of them is live yet.
| Source | What it is | The rule |
|---|---|---|
| Newsletter sponsorship | A named sponsor for an issue of one of our newsletters | Labelled as sponsored and kept apart from the journalism. If it promotes an investment, it must meet the same rule as our advertisements. The sponsor does not see or shape the issue. |
| Membership | A low-cost paid tier with full data history, downloads and the archive | Explainers stay free to read. Members pay for depth and convenience, never for different conclusions. |
| Events | Briefings and events for investors and for professionals | Sponsors are named. Editors choose the editorial sessions and who speaks at them. |
| Data product sponsorship | A named sponsor for a table such as the Yield Ladder | Only with a written independence clause: the sponsor never touches the data, the method or the order of anything in it. |
| Professional sponsorship | Sponsored hubs, webinars and training sessions in TID Professional | Labelled, kept behind the professional registration and never shown to private investors. |
Affiliate links and comparison revenue are not part of our plans. We would consider them only after regulatory advice, only outside our editorial pages, and only after changing this page.
Our publisher’s other interests
TWC publishes other titles, including our sister title SEIS Investments, and has other business interests. When we link to a sister title, we say so. If a piece covers a company or product in which TWC or its owners have an interest, the piece discloses it. The rules are in our editorial code.
Why we keep commerce out of editorial
Under article 54 of the Regulated Activities Order, advice given in a newspaper, magazine or regularly updated news service is excluded from the regulated activity of advising on investments, but only while the publication’s principal purpose, taken as a whole and including its advertisements, is neither to give that kind of advice nor to lead or enable readers to buy, sell or subscribe for investments. The exclusion never covers a personal recommendation. Keeping transaction links, affiliate deals and lead forms out of our editorial pages protects that position, and it protects the reader.
