About The Investment Daily
The Investment Daily is an independent investment magazine organised by asset class. We explain how each asset a UK investor can own works, what it pays after tax and costs, how to own it and what can go wrong, with desks for India and the US and a separate edition for investment professionals.
Our tagline is our brief: every asset class, one independent view. We are journalists, not advisers, and we do not sell investments.
What we are
A newsroom and a data desk. We explain each asset class from first principles, report what changed this week and what it means for an investor, and will publish standing data on each asset class, with the method in public. We also hold the market to account on costs, scams and rules that are hard to follow.
Every comparison is made on the basis a reader actually lives with: after tax, after costs and in sterling, by tax band where it matters. The India and US desks state the currency and the tax residence they assume. Every figure carries a named source and the date it refers to. Our rules are on how we count.
What we are not
We are not a broker, a platform, a comparison site, a tipsheet or an adviser. We never tell a reader what to buy or sell, we publish no price targets or model portfolios, and we do not sell the products we write about. Our explainers are free to read and will stay that way.
Nothing on this site is personal advice. If you need advice about your own circumstances, use a regulated financial adviser. MoneyHelper, run by the Money and Pensions Service, explains how to choose one.
The seven desks
Asset class is the spine of the site. Each desk covers one family of assets and is laid out the same way: the latest reporting and data first, then the explainers, the ways to own it, the tax, the risks and a room for professionals. The desks run from the most familiar asset to the most specialist. That is a reading order, not a ranking of risk.
- Bonds & Cash: gilts, bonds, cash and money market funds, and what lending your money pays after tax.
- Funds & ETFs: index funds, active funds, ETFs and investment trusts, the vehicles most investors hold.
- Equities: UK, US, Indian and global shares, with owning a company explained and measured.
- Property: buy-to-let, REITs and commercial property, and what bricks pay after tax and costs.
- Gold & Commodities: gold, silver, oil and other real things that are priced every day.
- Private Markets: LTAFs, VCTs, EIS, SEIS, PISCES and private credit, the assets that do not trade every day.
- Alternatives: infrastructure, digital assets and passion assets at the edge of the portfolio, with the scams named.

Two editions
The Investment Daily is written for serious self-directed and wealthy investors in the UK, and for people with money across borders. TID Professional is written for advisers, paraplanners, wealth managers, investment committees and fund selectors. Both share one newsroom and one set of desks, so an adviser and a client can read about the same asset class at different depths. Professional content is free to verified professionals and is not meant for private investors.
UK first, with India and US desks
We write first for investors in the UK. The India desk covers India for the global investor: non-resident Indians in the UK and elsewhere, Indian residents investing abroad, and the rules on both sides. The US desk covers the US market for investors outside the US, including UK holders of US shares and funds.
Neither desk competes on home-market news, and neither gives views on whether to buy or sell a security. On every desk page, a region switch shows the UK, India or US view.
Who publishes The Investment Daily
The Investment Daily is published by The Webezine Company (TWC), a publisher of specialist titles. You can reach us at editor@theinvestmentdaily.com or through our contact page.
This site is a relaunch. Articles from the earlier version of The Investment Daily are being rewritten to the standards on this page and moved into the desks.
Sister titles
TWC also publishes these titles. Whenever we link to one, we say it is a sister title.
- SEIS Investments: an independent magazine and education hub on the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme, for founders, investors and advisers. Our Private Markets desk links to it for depth on SEIS.
- NRI Affairs: independent news for the Indian diaspora. Our India desk covers the money side of the same readership.
- Golfer 9: a UK golf title covering courses, equipment, news and travel.
How we hold ourselves to account
- Editorial code: accuracy, sourcing, conflicts, staff dealing and our use of AI tools.
- Independence and how we make money: who pays for the site and the rules that govern it.
- Corrections: our policy and the public log.
- How we count: how we source, date and round figures.
- TID Editorial Desk: who writes under the desk byline, and how pieces are checked.
